3DEXPERIENCE Licensing Errors after Renewal

Problem

When renewing 3DEXPERIENCE licenses, the new licenses may differ slightly from previous ones. This can happen with the startup program, as additional roles are included the first year that may not be included in the second year. This can also happen with different packages of SOLIDWORKS.

Errors occurring while launching SOLIDWORKS, regarding 3DEPXERIENCE licenses being missing or expired.

When the renewal happens, users may be left with roles assigned that no longer have licenses available. This can cause a variety of errors in 3DEXPERIENCE, particularly when trying to use SOLIDWORKS or other platform apps. Even if the expired role is unrelated to the app being used, errors may still occur.

Solution 1

To avoid these errors, expired roles should be removed from users. This can be done using the following steps:

  1. Under the Platform Management dashboard, go to the Members tab, then click Configure Members Options in the Members Control Center. The Configure Members Options tab of the Members Control Center, with the steps to get there - the Platform Management dashboard and the Members tab - also highlighted.
  2. Ensure that under Licenses Expiration, you set the Automatically ungrant expired roles from members or groups to active (Blue). The Configure Members Options tab of the Members Control Center, with the option to ungrant expired roles highlighted and enabled.

Solution 2

Enabling that option to ungrant expired roles should remove all of the expired roles and will remove roles when they expire in the future. If errors continue to occur, further steps can be taken to manually remove roles:

  1. Select the Invite & Grant Roles tab in the Members Control Center. The Members Control Center with the Invite & Grant Roles tab highlighted and selected.
  2. Click on the "i" icon next to the user profile. The Members Control Center showing members on the platform, with the 'i' button for Member Details next to one user highlighted.
  3. Review and remove any expired roles that are still assigned, or any roles indicating that they are assigned with no license available.  The Member Details page for a user, with some roles showing no locks, indicating they can be removed.

Solution 3

If errors persist after confirming expired roles have been removed, it may be necessary to update or reinstall application being used.

  1. Open the Compass on the 3DEXPERIENCE PlatformThe 3DEXPERIENCE Platform with the Compass pane open and the Compass, the blue circle in the upper left corner, highlighted
  2. Navigate to the application, click the drop-down arrow next to it, and select the option to update or uninstall. The Compass pane on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform with the context menu for a SOLIDWORKS app open, with the drop-down arrow to open the menu and the Update and Uninstall buttons in the menu all highlighted3. If the app was uninstalled, once that has completed, it can be reinstalled by selecting the same drop-down menu and then Install Now.
