Using the Generate Derived Format Task

The purpose of this document is to show how SolidWorks Task Scheduler can be used to place converted files on the 3DExperience Platform. Task Scheduler recently gained the ability to generate derived outputs of drawings. Drawings that are uploaded to the 3DExperience platform can have .pdf, .dwg, or .dxf conversions done in batch processing with Task Scheduler. Once the derived format is processed, the files are available for download on the cloud. The files are stored locally in a working folder for the derived task.

Creating a Derived Output Task

For the task scheduler to place files onto the 3DExperience platform a derived output task must be set up. The converted files would be stored under the "Derived Outputs' menu tab on the platform.  Users however will have to manually download these files onto their system one at a time.

  1. Click the Generate Derived Output icon  on the sidebar, or click Tasks > Generate Derived Output.
  2. Enter a new title for the task or leave the default in the Task title of the dialog box.
  3. Select one of the following for Derived Output:
    • DWG
    • DXF
    • PDF

4. Select a Collaborative Space. The Task Scheduler searches for .SLDDRW files in the collaborative space where you are a member.

5. For the Maturity of the .SLDDRW files, select either Released or Frozen and Released.

6. For the Owner, select All Content or My Content from the collaborative space.

7. Define the working folder for the task export.

Note: All locally converted files will be stored in the working folder.

8. Test the task and verify if the file output is placed in the 'Derived Output' tab for download.

Note: When the "Generate Derived Output" task button is grayed out or missing do the following:

1. Ensure you install and enable the 3DExperience Collaborative Designer in the Add-ins dialog box by clicking Tools>Add-ins within SolidWorks.

2. Open the SolidWorks Task Scheduler in SolidWorks by clicking Tools>SolidWorks Applications>SolidWorks Task Scheduler.
