When importing a STEP file, the error "This Model is outside of the 1000m modeling limit" sometimes appears when the model was originally created too large. To fix this, the STEP file units can be scaled down.
STEP file units can be scaled by editing the files within a word processor. If the STEP file was originally saved in metric units, the steps to do this are listed below below:
1. Right click on the file and go to Open With > Notepad.
2. Search for "LENGTH_UNIT ( )" and find a line similar to
#1416 =( LENGTH_UNIT ( ) NAMED_UNIT ( * ) SI_UNIT ( .MILLI., .METRE. ) );
3. Replace the .MILLI with .MICRO
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all of the lines found in step 2 have been changed.
The model should be reduced by a factor of 1000 and should fit into the model space.
