Problem
Temporary license files must be removed to ensure proper activation of regular licensing. This is typically needed after completing testing, overcoming an outage, or the Temporary license file expiring.
This article goes over the steps to remove Temporary Network License files that are used with a SolidNetWork License Manager Server (SNL) and Temporary Standalone License files that are used on individual client machines.
Solution 1: Network License File Removal
- Open the SolidNetWork License Manager on the server machine.
- Make sure no licenses are checked out or borrowed from the License Usage tab.
- Stop the license server from the Server Administration tab.
- In the Server Administration tab, click "Options" within the "Advanced Options" section.
- In the window that comes up, select the “Use Activation” option and click "OK".
- Go through the steps in this article to reactivate the licenses: How To Update a SolidNetWork License – Hawk Ridge Systems
- Start the server by clicking "Start" in the "License Server" section.
Solution 2: Standalone License File Removal
If an expired Standalone License file is still present, you may see a "Standalone license file failure" when launching SolidWorks. Follow the steps below to remove the old license file if it has expired or you no longer wish to use a temporary license file.
- Close SOLIDWORKS.
- Open Windows File Explorer.
-
Show hidden folders by clicking the "..." button and select "Options" from the dropdown menu.
-
Under the View tab, select "Show hidden files, folders, and drives" and click "Apply".
- Navigate to C:\ProgramData\SOLIDWORKS.
-
Locate the license file called SolidWorksStandaloneLic.lic and delete it.
- Launch SOLIDWORKS to resume normal license usage. If you are prompted to activate the license, go through the steps in this article: How To Activate SOLIDWORKS Products – Hawk Ridge Systems
