Problem:
Manually creating a drawing file for each part and assembly takes time that could be better used elsewhere.
The Create Drawings task allows you to create drawing files for SOLIDWORKS part and assembly files using a specified drawing template with predefined views.
This article demonstrates how to use the Create Drawings task in SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler. You can find a full list of tasks performed by the SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler here:

Solution: Create Drawings Task
-
Select the Create Drawings task from the SOLIDWORKS Task Scheduler
Steps 2-9 will utilize the image below:
- Create a "Task title" if needed.
- Click "Browse" to locate a drawing template (.drwdot) with predefined views (Predefined Views - 2026 - SOLIDWORKS Help).
- Add the file or folder that contains the documents that need to be updated. Either files or folders can be specified. You cannot select both.
- Under Task schedule, the "Running mode" can be set to Once, Daily, Weekly, or Monthly. If the "Start time" and "Start date" are set in the past before clicking "Finish", the task will start immediately.
- Under the Task output folder, select either "Same as original file" or "This folder".
- If "This folder" was selected, either type the file path or click the "..." button to browse to the intended folder.
- Click "Advanced" if you want to change task options such as backup file location and time-out duration.
- Click "Finish", and the status of the task will appear. The status is scheduled.
