Are eDrawings files backwards compatible?

Problem

Is eDrawings Backwards Compatible with eDrawings or SOLIDWORKS files?

Solution

eDrawings files such as .eprt, .edrw, and .easm are not backwards compatible with older versions. eDrawings is also not backwards compatible with SOLIDWORKS Part (.sldprt), Assembly (.sldasm), or Drawing (.slddrw). This means if a file was created or saved in a newer version of eDrawings or SOLIDWORKS, it cannot be opened in an older version of eDrawings. For example, a 2026 file cannot be opened in eDrawings 2024.

When needing to open newer files in eDrawings, download and install the newest version of eDrawings Viewer. Here is our installation guide: How to Download and Install eDrawings Viewer – Hawk Ridge Systems
