Problem
This article explains how to disable the Measure tool in eDrawings to protect Intellectual Property when working with SOLIDWORKS files. Native SOLIDWORKS files opened in eDrawings have measurement enabled by default, including exported eDrawings files. To disable measurement, save the file as EPRT, EASM, or EDRW with the measure option turned off via File > Save As in SOLIDWORKS or eDrawings.
Solution 1: Export from SOLIDWORKS with Measurement Disabled
To disable measurement, the file must be exported from SOLIDWORKS as EPRT/EASM/EDRW with measurement disabled. Follow the steps below:
- Open SOLIDWORKS
- Go to Tools> Options > System Options > Export
- Change to the eDrawings file type EPRT/EASM/EDRW
-
Uncheck the export option "Enable Measure" and click "OK"
- Go to File > Save as
- Change the file type to an eDrawings file type (EPRT, EASM, or EDRW)
- Save the file
- Open the file in eDrawings to verify that Measure is disabled
Solution 2: Disable Measurement in eDrawings
In eDrawings, EPRT, EASM, or EDRW files can be resaved to disable measurement with the steps below:
- Open eDrawings
- Open the file
- Go to File>Save As
- Uncheck the Enable measure box (If a file is already measure-disabled, this checkbox won't even be shown)
- Reopen the file to verify that measurement is disabled
Note: Once an eDrawings file is saved as measure-disabled, all of its descendant files will be measure-disabled.
