This article covers what can be done when eDrawings stops working and crashes when opening a file. When opening a file in eDrawings, the following two errors may occur, followed by a crash:
- "eDrawing has stopped working"
- "LoadLibrary failed with error 87: The parameter is incorrect"
These errors can occur frequently on systems that use AMD graphics cards. It is also possible that this can occur after reinstalling eDrawings.
Solution 1: Restart eDrawings in Software OpenGL Mode
After a crash occurs, restart eDrawings in OpenGL Software mode. Depending on the version of eDrawings, the OpenGL mode may not be available. Follow the steps below to turn on OpenGL:
- Open eDrawings and select the 'Tools' menu from the top
- Select 'Options'
-
Check the box for 'Use software Open GL' and click 'OK'
- Restart eDrawings and open a file to confirm if the crash occurs again
- If the crash does not occur anymore, upgrade or reinstall the AMD Graphics Card Driver and retest the issue with OpenGL disabled
- If the crash does still occur, contact Technical Support for assistance
Solution 2: Reset the AMD Graphics Driver File
The instructions below are for resetting the graphics card driver file if a .dll error occurs in the Windows Event Viewer application log.
- Close all programs
- Open Windows Explorer
-
Locate the file ‘atig6pxx.dll’ which has the default location of: C:\Windows\System32
- Right-click on the file and select 'rename' to add the “.bak” file extension at the end of the file name. The new file name becomes ‘atig6pxx.dll.bak’
- Close Windows Explorer
- Launch eDrawings and open a file to confirm if the issue is resolved
- If the issue is not resolved, upgrade or reinstall the AMD Graphics Card Driver and retest the issue
