3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS Design 2025 and 2026 Crashes Immediately after Launch: SOLIDWORKS has encountered a problem and needs to close

Problem

An update to Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime can cause the 3DEXPERIENCE version of SOLIDWORKS Design 2025 SP5, 2026 SP0, and 2026 SP1 to crash immediately after launch with the message "SOLIDWORKS 2026 has encountered a problem and needs to close". The bug report BR10000422063 was created for this issue.

Solution

To resolve this issue, upgrade the 3DEXPERIENCE version of SOLIDWORKS using the steps below:

  1. Log in to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform: https://usw2-ifwe.3dexperience.3ds.com/ 
  2. Click the Compass at the top left

    Click the compass
  3. Navigate to SOLIDWORKS Design in the list of Apps

    Navigate to SOLIDWORKS Design
  4. Click the dropdown arrow and select the cycle button to update

    Click the dropdown arrow and select the cycle button to update
  5. Click "Update All Roles"

    Update all roles
  6. The 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher will now update and then open
  7. Go through the installation as prompted to update

    Start the installation
  8. When the installation is done, click "Close"
  9. Launch SOLIDWORKS again to retest the issue
