Drawings are Slow to Save in SOLIDWORKS 2022

Problem

Starting with SOLIDWORKS 2020, Detailing Mode helps edit large drawings easily but may slow drawing file saving due to extra data. This article shows how to adjust settings to improve performance in SOLIDWORKS 2022. Saving speed improved in SOLIDWORKS 2022 SP4 after SPR 1194315 was fixed. Solution

  1. Open SOLIDWORKS
  2. Open a Drawing File with slow Saving Performance
  3. Go to Tools > Options > Document Properties > Performance
  4. Uncheck "Save model data" and click "OK"
  5. Save the file
  6. Optional: Use File > Save As to save over the existing Drawing Template to save the setting change to the template for future Drawings.
