How to Fix CATIA Installation Setup Errors

In this article, we will cover the common installation issues that occur with the CATIA V5 software.

Problem 1 - Problem with VC11 Runtime Installation Error

When users download the CATIA V5 installation files via the DS Software Download Page or are delivered the files via media order, they come as a series of zip files. Some of those zip files contain multiple volumes of the installation information.

For example, CATIA V5 is downloaded in two zip files, Part 1 of 2 and Part 2 of 2. These need to be unzipped to a common location, rather than unzipped individually.
If the file sets are not unzipped correctly, the error below may appear:

setup: Problem with VC11 Runtime installation. Try to launch “DSYAdminVC11PreReg.exe -install -v “ from an elevated command window. If it fails, contact your customer service

Solution 1 - Extracting Both Packages to the Same Folder

  1. Place both packages in the same folder. This folder can be located anywhere on your PC.
  2. Create a new folder in this directory and name it “CATIA Install Files”.
  3. Right-click package 1-2 and select “Extract All” and extract to the newly created folder “CATIA Install Files”. Repeat the extraction for package 2-2 directly into “CATIA Install Files” and both packages will compile automatically.

  4. When executed correctly, there will be a single folder located in the “CATIA Install Files” folder labeled “CATIA_PLM_Express.win_b64”.

Problem 2 - Setup Error

After unzipping and combining the CATIA installation file sets, and finally running the setup.exe file, you may receive the following window with an error.

This "setup:" error with the big red X occurs, due to a conflict between the CATIA installation and the 2017 Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, x86 and x64 versions.

Solution 2 - Uninstall the 2017 Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables

In order to resolve the issue, uninstall the 2017 Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables:

  1. Select the Windows Start Button
  2. Search for and Select Control Panel

  6. Once it uninstalls, select Close
  7. Repeat steps 5 to 7 for Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributables (x86)

Once the Microsoft Visual C++ 2017 Redistributables are uninstalled, select the setup.exe file to begin the installation process.
