Problem

This article goes over the steps to change the license file used with "FLEXnet Licensing Utilities" (also known as "LMTOOLS") when hosting a FLEXnet License for Simulia Abaqus when a new license file is received. This is meant for servers using FLEXnet Licensing and not Dassault Systems License Server (DSLS).

Solution

1. Go to the license file location. By default, it should be "C:\SIMULIA\License\<year>\win_b64\code\bin". If it isn't here, this location can be found by opening the "FLEXnet Licensing Utilities" program from the Windows Start menu > FLEXnet Licensing Utilities and then checking the file path to the license file from the "Config Services" tab.

2. Find the existing license file ("simulialm.lic" in this example) in Windows File Explorer at this location to delete it or rename it.

3. Rename the new license key file with the exact name of the license file this is replacing, and place it in this location. For our example, we are renaming it to "simulialm.lic", which was the name of the old license file used.
4. Start the server or open "FLEXnet Licensing Utilities" and reread the license key file from the "Start/Stop/Reread" tab

5. The status of the server with the new license file can be checked by performing a "Perform Status Enquiry" from the "Server Status" tab of "FLEXnet Licensing Utilities"
