Problem
This article goes over how to access the Assembly Visualization tool and use it to evaluate an Assembly's Performance, Physical Properties, Custom Properties, and Part Status.
Solution 1: Access the Tool & Basic Usage
To access this tool, go to Tools > Evaluate > Assembly Visualization, or hit the Assembly Visualization icon found on the Evaluate tab in an assembly.
By default, it shows the file name, quantity, and SW-Mass. Clicking a column sorts it ascending or descending. Right-clicking any column except File Name lets you add a new column, and the order can be changed by left-click draging the columns. Columns with properties have a right-facing arrow on the header which can be clicked to change the property.
Solution 2: Evaluate Rebuild Performance
There are three main properties we can add to look at for performance of parts in Assembly Visualization. They are:
- Graphics-Triangles
- SW-Open Time
- SW-Rebuild Time
These properties can be added to Assembly Visualization with the steps below:
- Open Assembly Visualization
- Right-click on the rightmost column and select Add Column
- Click the right arrow dropdown next to the rightmost column and select More...
- In the Window that comes up, click the Properties dropdown, select one of the properties stated above, and hit ok.
- Repeat steps 1-4 to add other properties.
With these properties shown, we can evaluate the parts on Graphical Triangles, Open Time, and Rebuild Time. If any part has a high value for any of these properties, they should be investigated to determine what features are making it slow that can be simplified or improved.
Solution 3: Evaluate Properties & Part Status
To add additional Properties, follow the steps below:
- Open Assembly Visualization
- Right-click on the rightmost column and select Add Column
- Click the right arrow dropdown next to the rightmost column and select More...

In the Window that comes up, click the Properties dropdown, select one of the properties stated above that you want to show, and hit ok.
- Repeat steps 1-4 to add other properties.
This can be useful to check the values of Custom Properties of all parts while looking at the assembly or checking Part Status. Some examples of Part Status are:
- Converted to Current Version
- Entities with Appearances
- Envelope Component
- Excluded from BOM
- Fully Mated
