SOLIDWORKS Activation Error: Activation Transaction Failed

Problem

This article goes over the SOLIDWORKS Activation Error: "Activation Transaction Failed". The most common reason for this error is the SOLIDWORKS License is still active on another machine and needs to be deactivated in order to active on a new machine. Other reasons may include the Computer Identifier (Computer ID) used to activate is changing or the license may not be entitled to a newer version of SOLIDWORKS.

Solution 1: Contact Technical Support

The quickest way to address this error is to contact Technical Support so we can review the license to see what needs to be done in order for it work. This can be as simple as we need to locate the current machine hosting the license to deactivate it or there are other issues at play. After Technical Support has assisted with the license, launch SOLIDWORKS to attempt to activate the license again.

Solution 2: View the License on MyProducts

For SOLIDWORKS licenses on subscription, users with Administrator Roles can view Licensing Information to check where licenses are active to help deactivate them. Follow the steps below:

  1. Access MyProducts. More information on gaining access can be found here: How to View SOLIDWORKS Licensing Information with MyProducts – Hawk Ridge Systems
  2. Navigate to the License Serial Number with the error and check the name of the Active Computer

    Click on any product to see included products entitled by the same serial number, and activation details for that product
  3. Log in to the computer where the license is active currently

  5. For a Network license, follow the steps in this article to deactivate it: Moving SOLIDWORKS License Manager To Another Server – Hawk Ridge Systems
  6. Launch SOLIDWORKS on the new system to attempt to activate the license again
