If you find yourself frequently reusing Sub-assemblies and Part files in Top-level Assemblies for Flow Simulation Projects with similar setups, this tip can help you save time setting up Projects.
In Flow Simulation, there is a tool called "Add from Component" which can be used to pull Boundary Conditions from Flow Simulation Projects within the Sub-assemblies and Part files. This can be useful in saving time setting up Projects where you want to run the same Project or similar Project involving the same sub-assemblies and part files but with a different top-level assembly.
For example, in the below image, I have a top-level assembly of an Electronic Box with a Flow Simulation Project with no Boundary Conditions.
For this example, I am going to focus on a sub-assembly called "sodimm" and one part file called "south chip".
In the sub-assembly and part file I have created a Flow Simulation Project with some Boundary Conditions.
Now back in the Top-level Assembly Project, "Add from Components" can be accessed from Tools > Flow Simulation > Tools > Add from Components. In the window that comes up, we can see it has scanned the sub-assembly & part files and has found the two files with the above projects. To import the Boundary Conditions, follow the following steps:
- Using the dropdowns in the "Projects" column, we can select the project to pull the Boundary Conditions from.
- Hit the "Add" button to add them to the current Project. If the features are successfully imported, the "Imported" column to the right of the "Projects" column will have a green checkmark icon, if they are unable to import, there will be a red conflict button
.
- We can close the window when done with the "X" button.
With the window closed, now there is a new section in the Flow Simulation tree called "From Components". This contains the Boundary Conditions that have been imported from the Sub-assembly and Part file Projects.
When the features are in this section, they are linked to the source projects, so if the source Project's Boundary Condition is changed, the changes can be updated in the top-level project. The update can be done by right-clicking "From Components" in the Project tree and selecting "Update All".
If you want to change the features in the top-level only, right-click on a Boundary Condition to use the option "Copy to Project" which will copy it into Project Tree and break the link to the source Project. The feature will still exist in the "From Components" section but it will be suppressed.
