Problem

A bug has been found and reported in the 2024 release of CAMWorks Solids. Users may experience the error "Templates cannot be created in the present location" when starting a new Part or Assembly file. The condition only exists with CAMWorks Solids licenses limited to Parts or Parts and Assemblies.

The root cause is a missing drawing template, even though the license will not allow for the creation of drawing files. The workaround is to replace the missing drawing template file that the software is looking for.

Solution

Follow the steps below to place the attached Drawing Template into the Templates Folder:

1. Open CAMWorks Solids 

2. Navigate to Options > System Options > File Locations

3. Set the dropdown to "Document Templates" and note the file path for the Document Templates Folder. Note: The default location is: C:\ProgramData\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKS 2024\templates.

Note: When using a customized location for templates, verify that the software is pointing to the desired directory.

4. Close the Options menu and close CAMWorks Solids.

5. Download the ZIP file linked in this article.

6. Extract the file set

7.  Copy the 'Drawing.DRWDOT' file from the extracted folder to the location of the document templates from step 3. Note: The other templates are included but do not need to be copied over unless you are in need of blank template files for part and assembly files.

8. Launch CAMWorks Solids and start a new part or assembly. The expected menu should appear to choose the desired template, and no error should appear.
