How To Install CAMWorks

This document has detailed instructions on how to install CAMWorks (non-version specific).

Before installing this software, you should login with full administrative permissions.

This is not a troubleshooting guide. If you have any technical issues with CAMWorks please contact a support technician through our website or call us at 1.877.266-4469 (USA) or 1-866.587.6803 (Canada).

This document is only to be distributed and used by Hawk Ridge Systems customers. Any other use is prohibited.

Start SOLIDWORKS or CAMWorks Solids

System Requirements

Hawk Ridge Systems highly recommends taking a moment before installing CAMWorks and checking that you are ready to load your new software. First, ensure that your computer meets minimum system requirements and that your video card passes certification checks. Make sure you have a solid modeler software already installed, such as SOLIDWORKS/SOLIDWORKS OEM or CAMWorks Solids, and verified the version compatibility. Confirm that the hard drive has enough space to have at least 15% free space after the full installation. Back-up data such as any local or shared Technology Database, custom materials database, feeds and speed, or tool libraries, and a data management vault if used. As always, verify with coworkers, customers, or vendors that all are on the same version of SOLIDWORKS/CAMWorks. Older versions of SOLIDWORKS/CAMWorks cannot open files from newer versions.

Installation Procedure

1. Right click on the downloaded .zip file, select Properties, then check Unblock. Extract the downloaded file using Right Click > Extract Files.

2. From the unzipped folder, run the CAMWorks20##x64_Setup-SP#.exe. Follow the instructions given in the Installation Wizard to complete the installation. Apply the default settings from the installation process.

3. Initial installation screen – select Next to continue.

4. Review the User Agreement and select Yes to accept and to continue with the installation process.

5. You have the option to Opt-In or Opt-Out of the Feedback Program. By default, the option is ‘checked’ to set as Opt-In. Uncheck the option to Opt-Out of the program. Select Next to continue. This is an initiative from Geometric Americas, Inc. (the developer of the CAMWorks suite of products) whereby you can opt to give feedback on your CAMWorks usage pattern.

6. There are mandatory and optional components of the application that can be installed. The Optional Components are select by checking/unchecking the items. Once you have completed your selection, select Next to continue.

7. The application can be installed based on the desired language format. This does require that your system language is also set prior to applying this option. By default, English is applied. Therefore, you do not need to select any of the check boxes if installing the English language format. Select Next to continue.

8. The installation process will set the default location for the Program and Data folders. It is recommended to maintain these default locations. If this is an update installation where you already have installed the same year version, then this dialogue will not be presented as the folders will have already been created. Select Next to continue.

9. The Ready To Install dialogue is a limited representation of the options selected from the previous dialogues and is a summary of what will be applied during the installation process. Select Install to continue (this will start the installation process). During the installation process, there will be multiple pop-up messages indicating what component is getting installed at that time.

10. Upon completion of the installation process, there will be a dialogue to indicate the end of the process. There are two selectable options that can be checked/unchecked. The options are applied when you select Finish. Selecting Finish will complete the installation process.

11. Before starting the application, ensure that the license configuration has been completed successfully.

Start SOLIDWORKS or CAMWorks Solids

The CAMWorks logo is displayed to indicate CAMWorks is started. The Technology Database (TechDB) is loaded automatically. This TechDB is compatible with the CAMWorks version you just installed. If you have customized data in a previous version of the database, you can import the data into the new TechDB and get started using CAMWorks.
The CAMWorks Add-In is set by default to initiate on SW Start-Up. The option to not initiate CAMWorks on Start-Up can be set by unchecking the option.
