What Permissions are Required to Use the Toolbox Correctly?

When setting up a multi-user toolbox you will need to make sure all users have the correct permissions to access it. For the top-level toolbox SOLIDWORKS Data folder, each user will need to have full control assigned in the Windows folder security properties. For the Browser folder located directly in the Toolbox folder, it will need to be set to Read-Only. What happens is that when you use the toolbox (add a new part, edit toolbox definitions... etc.) the toolbox will instantly change from Read-Only to writable and back. So those properties need to be set properly and stay the same over time.

Steps for Setting Full Control

  2. Right-click on the folder and select Properties
  3. Go to the Security Tab
  4. Select the Group or User from the list
  5. Click Edit
  6. Select Full Control
  7. Hit OK
