How to Use the Bearing Calculator

Problem

The Toolbox add-in Bearing Calculator allows users to perform Bearing Calculations for capacity ratings and Basic life values. The Toolbox add-in comes with SOLIDWORKS Professional and Premium. For more information on other Toolbox topics, review this article: Comprehensive Toolbox Guide

Solution

  1. Open SOLIDWORKS and open a blank part
  2. Go to Tools > Toolbox > Bearing Calculator

  4. Under Capacity, select "Calculated" to determine the capacity based on the dimensions and bearing parameters, or "Rated" if the capacity is known or specified by the manufacturer. If Calculated is selected, do the following in steps 5-7.
  5. For Calculated: Type a value in the # Balls and Ball Diameter (or # Rollers and Roller Diameter if you selected a roller bearing) boxes, or accept the defaults for the selected bearing.
  6. For Calculated: Click "Solve Capacity".
  7. For Calculated: The Capacity value appears.
  8. In the "Equivalent Load" box, type a load value that represents the combined radial and thrust loads for the bearing.
  9. In the "Speed" box, type the revolutions per minute.
  10. Click "Solve Life" to calculate the Life in Revs (in millions of revolutions) and Life in Hours. If you only require the Life in Revs value, you do not need to type a value in the Speed box.
