Transferring/Deactivating a SOLIDWORKS Standalone License Between Computers

If you’d like to use SOLIDWORKS on another computer but have already used your activation in your standalone license, you must deactivate the computer that is already activated in order to use SOLIDWORKS on another machine. This will remove the license off your old machine and allow you to transfer it onto your new one. SIMPLY UNINSTALLING THE SOFTWARE WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY DEACTIVATE YOUR LICENSE ON THAT MACHINE.

To deactivate your license on versions of SOLIDWORKS 2015 and older, simply go to Help -> Transfer License (on the machine you wish to deactivate). In SOLIDWORKS 2016, this option has been renamed to “Deactivate Licenses”.

On the next screen, click “Select All”, choose whether you wish to transfer the license automatically over the internet or manually via e-mail, verify your email address and click “Next”. SOLIDWORKS will now begin to transfer your licenses off your machine.

Once SOLIDWORKS is finished transferring licenses off your machine, you will see a message telling you that the license was deactivated successfully, as well as a list of the products on your machine that is still activated on your computer (if you clicked “Select All”, this list should be blank). You are now able to activate SOLIDWORKS on another computer using the same serial number.

For the license and online services agreement between Dassault Systems and Customer (“Agreement”), please refer to the Offering Specific Terms (OST) found in the link below.

Note: If you have multiple versions of SOLIDWORKS installed on your machine, you must run the deactivation/transfer from the LATEST version of SOLIDWORKS installed. You will receive an error message if you attempt to deactivate from an older version than your latest.

If you do not have access to your old computer or if SOLIDWORKS is no longer usable or accessible for whatever reason on your old machine, please contact Hawk Ridge Systems at 877.266.4469 for the U.S or 866.587.6803 for Canada.
