Moving a CAMWorks License - File Based and Online Activation

File Based License

The CAMWorks file-based license is based on a license request made from a specific computer and is then locked to that computers MAC address or MAC ID. This is a number that is unique to that computer whether it is a server with a network license, or a workstation with a node locked/standalone license.

A CW License Request file (.cwreq) must be created from the new system. This requires that the appropriate CAMWorks application has been installed.

The CAMWorks application, which includes the CW License Manager must be installed on the 'new' computer to allow establishing a CAMWorks License Request (.cwreq) file. If the computer change is specific to a server machine, then only the CW License Manager needs to be installed on the 'new' server computer.

Here are the links to the related documentation regarding either a standalone or network license type.

Once you have submitted a license request you should receive a license file from CAMWorks within 2 weeks time.

Online Activation ID (FNO)

The CAMWorks online activation ID licensing type is not constrained to a systems MAC ID.

Before transitioning from the old system to the new system, whether on a client or server system, the activation ID must be Deactivated from the old system. The ID can then be Activated on the new system. There are no request files to create or submit for this transfer process.

The CAMWorks application, which includes the CW License Manager must be installed on the 'new' computer (client and server) to allow activating the license ID.
