Creating Non-Circular Detail Views

Jim Noe

In a drawing, the default selection for a detail view is a circular profile. This does not always create the desired view as it can include details that one does not want to include or does not create a profile that is visually appealing for the drawing.

Creating The  Detail View

1.) To create a non-circular detail view, sketch the desired profile. The sketch for the detail view profile must be added to the drawing.

2.) After creating the sketch profile for the detail view, make sure that the sketch is selected. To select the sketch profile, if it is not already selected, left-click on a line that is a part of the sketch and the whole sketch will be selected.

3.) Then, select Detail View from the View Layout tab of the Command Manager. This will create a detail view of the desired shape.

***Please note that the detail view will be the desired profile, but the detail view icon on the part or assembly will still be circular.
