Problem
In a drawing, the default selection for a Detail View is a Circular profile. This article goes over how to create a Detail View that is not Circular.
Solution
- Open SOLIDWORKS and open the Drawing with the view to create a Detail View

Sketch the desired profile using the Sketch Tools tab in the Drawing file, not in the Part or Assembly file
- After creating the sketch, select it by clicking on one line of it, which selects the whole sketch
- Add a new Detail View and place it

There is now a Detail View created using that sketch
