"Runtime Error R6025" Error When Launching SOLIDWORKS On Windows 10

Problem

This article goes over the steps needed to resolve the Runtime Error R6025 that prevents SOLIDWORKS from being launched.

When attempting to launch SOLIDWORKS on Windows 10, the user receives a "R6025 - pure virtual function call" error, and then SOLIDWORKS will crash. This error can occur when running SOLIDWORKS in Windows Compatibility Mode.

Solution

To resolve this error, follow the steps below to turn Windows Compatibility Mode off.

  1. Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to the SOLIDWORKS Installation Directory:
    C:\Program Files\SOLIDWORKS Corp\SOLIDWORKS

  2. Locate the SLDWORKS.exe file in this folder, right-click on it, and select Properties.

  3. In the Window that comes up, switch to the Compatibility tab.

  4. In the Compatibility tab, uncheck the option for "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and hit "OK".

  5. Try launching SOLIDWORKS again to retest the issue.

    For me, this error started happening randomly (no Windows patches or even reboots between when it worked and stopped working), and the "Compatibility Mode" box was not checked, but when I check it and choose "Windows 7", that seems to work around this issue. I'm running Windows 10 (1809) and SW 2022 SP05.
