Problem
This article documents a recent announcement from the SOLIDWORKS development team regarding a widespread stability issue in SOLIDWORKS 2024 SP1.
SOLIDWORKS has released a hotfix for the following issue documented in BR10000372177:
SOLIDWORKS hangs regenerating graphics when deleting a feature, triggering a full rebuild.
Solution 1: Apply the Hotfix
To apply the hotfix:
- Download the HotFix_HF-1240281_2024sp01.exe file attached to this QA and save it to a local disk.
- Close active SOLIDWORKS sessions and ensure that sldworks.exe is not running in the Windows® Task Manager. Right-click the process and end the process if it is active.
- Run HotFix_HF-1240281_2024sp01.exe by double-clicking.
- Choose “unzip” to unzip the contents and launch the installer. Follow the prompts to complete the installation of SOLIDWORKS HotFix_HF-1240281_2024sp01.
To remove the hotfix:
- Enter Control Panel in the Windows Search tool on the Taskbar to access the Windows Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- From the list of Programs, right-click SOLIDWORKS HotFix_HF-1240281_2024sp01.
- Select Uninstall/Change and follow the steps to remove SOLIDWORKS HotFix_HF-1240281_2024sp01.
Solution 2: Upgrade SOLIDWORKS
SOLIDWORKS 2024 is fully released with the final Service Pack 5. It is recommended to upgrade to Service Pack 5 for the best stability for SOLIDWORKS 2024. In SOLIDWORKS, go to Help > Check for Updates to upgrade SOLIDWORKS to a newer Service Pack.
