Problem
Most fonts in SOLIDWORKS create closed contours in sketch text, which is not ideal for engraving, where a single-line or stick font is required.
Solution
Starting with SOLIDWORKS 2014, there is a Stick Font built into SOLIDWORKS called "OLF SimpleSansOC" that can be used with Sketch Text for engraving. Follow the steps below to create Sketch Text with a Stick Font:
- Open a Part or Assembly file
- Start a Sketch

Draw a line or curve to position the Sketch Text on, or choose an edge for positioning

Add Sketch Text from Tools > Sketch Entities > Text

In the Sketch Text Property Manager, uncheck "Use document font", then click "Font" to browse to a font to use

Choose the OLF SimpleSansOC font

Click "OK" and click the Green Checkmark to create the sketch text
