Problem

Let's say we have completed a long render with PhotoView360 and it is finished, and then when we go to save the image as a TIFF or PNG, it hangs or crashes. If we try to re-open SolidWorks and recall the last scheduled render, there is a chance it might purge or delete those temporary files. This article goes over how to recover the render when Photoview crashes.

Solution

There is a chance we can recover the temporary files so we do not have to re-run the render. When we do a final render, it creates three files in the temporary folder.

• A large .TMP file with the raw data
• A small .PNG for the thumbnail preview
• An XML file that contains the post-render settings and information about the render

1. If SOLIDWORKS crashes, browse to C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Temp and then copy out the three most recently created files that have this naming structure: frame0000-thumb.png, frame0000-stats.XML, and frame0000-pass0000.TMP.
2. End the SOLIDWORKS task and re-launch and re-run the render at the lowest resolution and lowest quality to produce a dummy render that we will replace. 
3. Now, rename those temp files and paste in the ones we copied before, and rename them to the last created name, and you will be able to recover and save out the rendering.
