Problem
This article goes over how to reorganize the Toolbox by modifying it using the Toolbox Settings application. For more information on other Toolbox topics, review this article: Comprehensive Toolbox Guide
Solution
The Toolbox Settings application can be used to reorganize the Toolbox by copying, pasting, deleting, creating, and renaming Toolbox or Hole Wizard Standard folders. This applies to the subfolders as well. Before making changes, we recommend making a copy of the Toolbox Data folder to back it up. It is typically located at: C:\SOLIDWORKS Data.
Follow the steps below to reorganize the Toolbox:
-
In Windows Search, type "Toolbox Settings" to bring up Toolbox Settings 20XX and open it
-
Once the toolbox is open, select "Customize your hardware" to modify Toolbox Standards or "Hole Wizard" to modify Hole Wizard Standards
-
To rename a standard, select it from the list on the left and edit the "Description" field to the right
-
Create a new standard by right-clicking "Toolbox Standards" at the top to select "New Folder", and give the new folder placed at the bottom a name.
- Copy a standard by right-clicking an existing standard to select "Copy", and then right-click it again to select "Paste", which will paste the copy at the bottom of the list.
-
Standards can be deleted by right-clicking on them to select "Delete"
- Once all changes have been made, click the "Save" icon at the top left to save the Toolbox
