Drawings are Slow to Save in SOLIDWORKS 2020 and 2021

Problem

Starting with SOLIDWORKS 2020, Detailing Mode helps edit large drawings easily but may slow drawing file saving due to extra data. This article shows how to adjust settings to improve performance in SOLIDWORKS 2020 & 2021. Saving speed improved in SOLIDWORKS 2022 SP4 after SPR 1194315 was fixed. Solution

  1. Open SOLIDWORKS
  2. Go to Tools > Options > Drawings > Performance
  3. Uncheck "Include detailing mode data when saving"
  4. Restart SOLIDWORKS and try to save again
Turn off detailing mode data in SOLIDWORKS 2020 & 2021
