Convert Standalone Licenses into a Network License
Changing your licenses starts with your account manager. Your account manager will process the order to combine your existing standalone serial numbers into a single network serial number. The following steps are what you should do to ensure a smooth transition from individual standalone licenses to the network license.
- If you are currently swapping licenses between computers (such as work and home) you need to stop doing so for now. Once SOLIDWORKS converts your standalone serial numbers to the network, this process will stop working as the existing standalone serial numbers are canceled. Since it can take several days before you get your new network license setup, you may have several days of downtime if the license is deactivated from a computer after it is canceled by SOLIDWORKS.
- Once you receive your new SolidNetWork License serial number, you will need to install the SolidNetWork License Manager Server on your Server. See server installation links here
- After you have installed your SolidNetWork License Manager Server (SNL) on your Server and activated it, you will now modify your installations to use the SNL for their licensing. You do not need to uninstall your prior individual/standalone SOLIDWORKS, instead you will simply modify the client installations to switch to the Network serial number and point to the network license manager.
Note: Once SOLIDWORKS has canceled the serial number a deactivation is not required but may still be prompted during the serial number update when modifying the installation. If you get an 'invalid' message during deactivation, you can safely ignore the message since the serial number is canceled.
You can find how to modify your installation for your specific year version from the links here - Now your client computers should be getting their licenses from the SNL.
Convert a Network License into Standalone Licenses
Changing your licenses starts with your account manager. Your account manager will process the order to break apart your existing network serial number into several individual standalone serial numbers. The following steps should be used to smoothly complete the process.
- Once you are about ready to have the change submitted to SOLIDWORKS, contact support to get a temporary license file for your server
- After your get the license file for your server, deactivate your server from the standard activation process.
Deactivation process can be found here - Now use the License file to activate the server until your serial number conversions have been completed.
Directions for using a license file can be found here - Once you have your new standalone serial numbers you will modify your client installations to use those numbers rather than the network serial number.
