"Error 1706. No valid source could be found..." Upon Launching Previous Version After Upgrading SOLIDWORKS

Problem

Upon completing a service pack (SP) upgrade of SOLIDWORKS, previous installations of SOLIDWORKS will sometimes display the below error:

error 1706 no valid source could be found for product SOLIDWORKS. The Windows Installer cannot continue.

This does not appear to occur for new installations of SOLIDWORKS; it has only been reported after upgrades from a previous SP.

Solution

This issue has been resolved for many users by repairing the previous version of SOLIDWORKS that is exhibiting the behavior.

The steps to repair your previous version of SOLIDWORKS and resolve this issue can be found in the following article: How to Repair SOLIDWORKS – Hawk Ridge Systems
