"Error 1706. No valid source could be found..." Upon Launching Previous Version After Upgrading SOLIDWORKS

Problem

Upon completing a service pack (SP) upgrade of SOLIDWORKS, older installations of SOLIDWORKS will sometimes display the error: "Error 1706. No valid source could be found for product SOLIDWORKS 20XX SP0X. The Windows Installer cannot continue".

This does not appear to occur for new installations of SOLIDWORKS; it has only been reported after upgrades from a previous SP.

Solution 

This issue has been resolved for many users by repairing the older version of SOLIDWORKS that is exhibiting the behavior. The steps to repair the older version of SOLIDWORKS to resolve this issue can be found in the following article: How to Repair SOLIDWORKS – Hawk Ridge Systems

Note: The repair needs to be done using the full installation file set of that older version. If the full file set is not available or present on the machine, contact your reseller.
