How To Fully Embed an Image into a DraftSight File

Problem

This article goes over how to embed an image into a DraftSight drawing without having an external reference to the image file.

Solution

Please follow the steps below to allow the image to not have an external reference.

  1. Edit the image in Microsoft Paint

A logo PNG is open in Microsoft Paint
  2. In Microsoft Paint, select the image using CTRL+A  on the keyboard.
  3. Once the image is all selected, copy the image using CTRL+C on the keyboard. This places the image on the clipboard.
  4. Open the DraftSight Drawing
  5. Set the Workspace to "Drafting and Annotation"

Set the Workspace to Drafting and Annotation
  6. Select Insert menu>Paste>Paste Selected

Use the Paste Selected option to paste the image
  7. Choose the Device Independent Bitmap and click OK

Use the Device Independent Bitmap option from the following dialog box
  8. Select and drag a window with the mouse cursor for placement and size of the image.

Your DraftSight document now has an embedded image
