Problem

When using PDM View Setup, sometimes users will get the Error Message "Attached: Missing Information" and be unable to select the vault view they want to add to their computer. This article will go over troubleshooting this error.

View Setup Missing Info message

Here are the reasons for the Error:

  • There is already a vault view on the computer, and the connection needs to be reestablished
  • There is an old registry entry from an incorrectly removed Vault View
  • There is an old registry entry and folder from an incorrectly removed Vault View

When going into the Registry Editor, do not modify or delete anything except what is listed below. If you do not feel comfortable performing the steps listed below, please contact Technical Support.

Solution 1: Reattach the Existing Vault View

Use the steps below to keep the existing vault view by reconnecting to the SOLIDWORKS PDM Server:

  1. Open the Windows Registry Editor and search for a "ShellRoot" registry entry under the following keys:
  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\Databases\[VAULTNAME]
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\Databases\[VAULTNAME]
  4. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\Vaults\[VAULTNAME]

Note: If the ShellRoot key exists under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE locations, it should not exist under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

  5. Access the ShellRoot location shown in the Data column of the key

    Check ShellRoot location

Note: Users may see a vault view folder with the PDM Icon next to it.

    ShellRoot_Location_Vault_Exists

Note: Users may see a yellow folder with the vault's name.

    ShellRoot_Location_Vault_RegularFolder

Note: Users may not see any folder.

    ShellRoot_Location_Vault_Folder_Missing
  6. If there is a vault view folder with the PDM icon next to it, we can reattach the view.
  7. If there is a yellow folder or no folder, skip to the section Update the Registry and Create a New Vault View.
  8. Open the PDM Administration tool and log into the PDM vault
  9. Right-click the Vault Name and select "Explore"
  10. This will open Windows File Explorer and prompt for a login
  11. If there is no login prompt, check for an Offline key in the registry and make sure it is deleted or set to 0.  The Offline key is located under: KEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\Vaults\<vaultname>. Once that key is deleted or set to 0, start back at step 5 above.
  12. Log into the PDM prompt.
  13. We should now see the PDM folders in the vault view.

Solution 2: Update the Registry and Create a New Vault View

Use these steps to remove old registry and folder data before creating your new vault view.

  1. Open the Windows Registry Editor and search for a "ShellRoot" registry entry under the following keys:
  2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\Databases\[VAULTNAME]
  3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\Databases\[VAULTNAME]
  4. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\Vaults\[VAULTNAME]

Note: If the ShellRoot key exists under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE locations, it should not exist under HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

  5. Access the ShellRoot location shown in the Data column of the key
Check ShellRoot location

Note: Users may see a vault view folder with the PDM Icon next to it.

ShellRoot_Location_Vault_Exists

Note: Users may see a yellow folder with the vault's name.

ShellRoot_Location_Vault_RegularFolder

Note: Users may not see any folder.

ShellRoot_Location_Vault_Folder_Missing
  1. If there is a yellow folder or no folder, continue with the rest of these steps.
  2. If there is a vault view folder with the PDM icon next to it, please scroll back up and use the steps under the section Reattach the Existing Vault View.
  3. If the yellow folder exists, please either delete or rename the folder.
  4. If there are files checked out in that view, rename the folder. This way, we can retrieve the last saved versions and get them into the new view.
  5. Once the old folder is renamed or deleted, we should return to the registry keys that contained the ShellRoot entry.
  6. Open the Windows Registry Editor with Administrative permissions (right-click > Run as Administrator
  7. Back up the Registry Key containing the ShellRoot entry by right-clicking and selecting "Export"

    Export registry key

  8. Select a location to save the registry file and name it. Clicking this file will restore the registry backup.
  9. Delete the ShellRoot entry. Note: If ShellRoot was under both HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE locations, please delete it from both locations.
  10. Use View Setup to create your new vault view.
