SOLIDWORKS PDM Warning: The Current SOLIDWORKS Task Add-in is unsupported

Problem

When selecting a file in the SOLIDWORKS PDM Vault, a user may get a warning: "The current SOLIDWORKS Task Add-in version is unsupported". This may occur after upgrading the PDM Server and Client, where the task
add-in used by the PDM client machine may be corrupted or the wrong version.

Solution 1: Verifying the Task add-in version

Confirming the task add-in version on the PDM client can be done through the Task Host Configuration Manager. After the Task Host Configuration Manager loads, it will show if a task add-in is enabled for the selected vault.

  1. Navigate to the Windows task tray and right-click the blue/white icon for PDM
  2. Select 'Task Host Configuration' from the menu option
Select Task Host Configuration
  1. Select the PDM Vault from the drop-down in the upper right-hand corner of the Task Host Configuration menu.
  2. Review the version of the Task Add-in. The format of the Version Number of the task add-in is TTSSBBBB, where TT is the Major Release Number, which is 8 more than the Version Year of SOLIDWORKS PDM, SS is the Service Pack, and BBBB is the Build Number. For the Task Add-in in the example below, the major release number is 31 (SOLIDWORKS PDM 2023), the Service Pack is 4, and the Build Number is 0047. Note: SOLIDWORKS PDM 2020 and older use different version terminology: YYYYSSBBBB, where YYYY is the Version Year 20XX, SS is the Service Pack, and BBBB is the Build Number.
Check Version
  1. After verifying that the Task Add-in is the same version as the PDM Client, go to the next solution in this article. If the task add-in is not current, proceed to step 6 about upgrading the task add-ins.
  2. If the PDM Task Add-in is not the same version as the PDM Client, upgrade it by following the steps in this article: Updating SOLIDWORKS PDM Add-ins – Hawk Ridge Systems Support

Solution 2: Renaming the PDM Plugins Cache Folder

The PDM Client stores plugins in a cache folder located in the hidden AppData folder directory in Windows. This cache folder can become corrupt and cause warnings regarding the add-in and impact functionality.

  1. Navigate to the PDM directory: c:\users\<username>\AppData\Local\SolidWorks\SOLIDWORKS PDM. Note: This folder may be hidden by default in Windows File Explorer. In Windows 11, go to View > Show > Hidden Items. In Windows 10 & older, go to the View Tab and check the "Hidden Items" option.
Navigate to PDM Plugins Folder
  1. Select the plugins folder and rename it to "Plugins_old"
  2. Log off from the PDM Vault and then log back in
  3. Open the PDM Vault to check if the issue has been resolved
