IGES or STEP File Convert with Virtual Components

Using Convert Tasks in EPDM for files like IGES or STEP files will create multiple files for an assembly which can be unwanted behavior.

By default, EPDM settings automatically separate and create individual files for any virtual component in an assembly. When an assembly is run through a convert task for IGES, STEP, or other solid models formats, the default setting of “Save all components of an assembly into one file” is overwritten in the advanced scripting options.

The process instead will covert the assembly and create a file for the top level assembly, and also a file for each virtual component within the assembly. This guide will cover the steps to edit your custom scripting options to disable this behavior.

Open the Administration Tool and open the Convert Task that needs modifying.

Select Output File Details and click Advanced Scripting Options.

Select all the text within the window and copy and paste it into a text editor (Notepad, Word, etc).

Use the Find feature to search for the text “Process virtual components”.

Use a single quote ‘ to comment out text starting below ‘ Process virtual components and ending above ‘ Close Document.

Select all the text and copy it back into the Advanced Scripting Options Window.

Click OK and you have successfully updated the script.

Note: You can also delete the text instead of suppressing it, but it is recommend that the code be suppressed should the setting need to be reverted.
