How to Remove a Section or Detail View Without Deleting the Defining Sketch

Have you ever needed to remove a section or detail view from a drawing, but want to keep the sketch that defines the section view? Solidworks makes this easy with a simple check box in the delete dialogue.

To do this, right click on the view, go to Delete, and uncheck the option for “Delete section sketch” or "Delete detail sketch."

This will delete the view, but leave the cutting line or detail circle intact, including the view label and line properties. It will still be defined as a cutting line/detail circle, and can be edited as such.

If you wish to remove the line properties and labels so that the sketch is just a regular sketch line, left click on the cutting line or detail circle, press the delete key, and again uncheck the option for “Delete section sketch” or "Delete detail sketch."
