SOLIDWORKS Upgrade Error: Toolbox Is Currently In Use

Problem

This article describes the steps to resolve a SOLIDWORKS upgrade error:
"Toolbox is currently in use"

This can be the result of the Toolbox being accessed during the SOLIDWORKS upgrade. It can also occur if the swbrowser.ldb file that should be automatically deleted when SOLIDWORKS is closed remains.

Solution

  1. In SOLIDWORKS, go to Tools > Options > System Options > Hole Wizard/Toolbox to locate the location of the Toolbox Data folder

Note the Toolbox Data folder location
  2. Close SOLIDWORKS
  3. Browse to the Toolbox Data folder location
  4. Delete the swbrowser.ldb file
  5. Try to upgrade SOLIDWORKS again
