How To Check Your SQL Version And Edition

This article outlines how you can check your SQL version and edition. When doing a PDM upgrade it is essential to know your SQL version and edition to determine if you need to upgrade your SQL also.

SOLIDWORKS is currently supporting PDM Professional on SQL Server Standard and Enterprise Editions. Edition such as Datacentre, although it is not currently officially tested, there are no known reported compatibility issues.

SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard requires that you host a vault on Microsoft SQL Server Express.

An updated list with the compatibility between different SQL servers and SOLIDWORKS PDM versions can be found here.

  1. Open SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. In the left pane click on SQL Server Services.
  3. Then in the right pane right click on SQl Server and select Properties.
  4. In the dialog box that appears, go to the Advanced tab where you will see the file version and edition as illustrated below.
