How To Check Your SQL Version And Edition

Problem

This article goes over how to check the SQL Version and Edition. When doing a PDM Upgrade, it is essential to know the SQL Version and Edition to determine if SQL also needs to be upgraded.

SOLIDWORKS is currently supporting PDM Professional on SQL Server Standard and Enterprise Editions. SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard requires Microsoft SQL Server Express. For a list of supported versions, review the SOLIDWORKS System Requirements.

Solution

  1. Open the Windows Search bar and type "SQL" to bring up SQL Server Configuration Manager, and open it

  2. In the left pane, click on "SQL Server Services"

  3. In the right pane, right-click on "SQL Server" and select "Properties"

  4. In the Properties Window that comes up, select the Advanced tab to see the SQL Version under "File Version" and the Edition under "Stock Keeping Unit Name," as shown below
