Error: Could not Initiate the Transaction

Problem

When attempting to activate SOLIDWORKS, an error can occur indicating the activation transaction failed. The message that SOLIDWORKS provides can be confusing and lists the error [0,0,0]. Other messages may include "failed to obtain computerID" and contact your Value-Added-Reseller.

Solution

After verifying that the machine has internet access, the next step is to check the FlexNet license services on the machine.

  1. Open the Windows Search Bar, type "Services", and hit Enter
  2. Scroll down the list to FlexNet Licensing Service & FlexNet Licensing Service 64
  3. Verify that the service startup type for the FlexNet services is set to the "manual" or "automatic" startup option

  1. If the FlexNet License and FlexNet License 64 services are set to "Disabled" for the startup type, right-click the services to open Properties

  2. In Properties, set the startup type to "Automatic" or "Manual", then start the services, and click OK

Set to auto or manual then start the services
  3. After both services are set to manual, launch SOLIDWORKS again and try activating the software
