How to Change the Language in SOLIDWORKS

Problem

This article goes over how to change the language used by SOLIDWORKS.

Solution 1: Change Language for Windows & SOLIDWORKS

  1. Start a modification of SOLIDWORKS following the steps in this article: How To Modify A SOLIDWORKS Installation – Hawk Ridge Systems
  2. At the Product Selection page, select the desired language packages to install and continue the installation until it is done

  1. Change the system language to the desired language under Windows Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region
  2. Launch SOLIDWORKS
  3. Navigate to Tools > Options > System Options > Genera
  4. Clear the check boxes for “Use English language menus” and “Use English language features and file names.” These check boxes will be available if another language other than English is selected during the installation and if SOLIDWORKS' system options are set to said language.

Solution 2: Change Language for just SOLIDWORKS

  1. Close out all SOLIDWORKS applications.
  2. Navigate to <install_location>\SolidWorks\lang (the default location is C:\Program Files\SolidWorks Corp\SolidWorks\lang), where the folders of English and the language of your choice should be located.

  3. Rename “english” to “english_old” and rename the folder of the desired language to “english”.

  4. Relaunch SOLIDWORKS to view and operate the software in the language of your choice.
