Problem
This article goes over how to use the "Record Video" feature in SOLIDWORKS to capture the graphics area of the software in real time. This can be helpful for documenting a workflow for a co-worker or demonstrating the motion of an assembly.
Solution
- Open SOLIDWORKS and open the desired file
- Select View > Screen Capture > Record Video to open the video capture feature

- Input the File Name for the video to create, and use the "Save in" dropdown to set the file location

- Pick a video file type. Note: Some file types will include a series of images and not a video file. We recommend using an "AVI" or "MP4" file type, as they are the most commonly used file types.

- Adjust the "Image Size" and "Aspect Ratio" used for the video. Normally, it can be kept as the default.
- Set the "frames per second". Note: When the FPS (frames per second) increases, the file size will increase, but it can also make the video smoother to a point.

- When exporting to "AVI", you must set a compressor in the video compression window. Compressors reduce file size, and usually the default option works fine. Note: Microsoft Video 1 compressor may not work with Windows 10's default media player. Use the Intel IYUV codec or choose a different file type.

- Select "Ok" to start the capture
- Manipulate the model as desired
- Once finished, look for a toolbar for video recording at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
-
To stop the recording, select the bottom button from this toolbar. The top button is used to create screenshots.
- Once the video is finished, check the specified file location for the saved file
