Why Are Surface Bodies Not Showing in Drawing Views in SOLIDWORKS?

Problem

By default, SOLIDWORKS Drawings do not show Surface Bodies of a multibody part containing surface and solid bodies. The surfaces are considered reference geometry and will need to be imported into the model view of the drawing in order to show. In the example images below, the left body is a Solid Body & the right body is a Surface Body, so only one is shown in the drawing view.

No Surface Body shown

Solution

  1. In the Drawing, go to Insert > Model Items
  2. In the Model Items Property Manager window, set the Source to "Entire Model", and select the Surface Body option under Reference Geometry

    Select Surface and Source
  3. Select the View(s) to import into for the "Destination view(s)" selection box. Note that this selection box appears after left-clicking a view to start.

    Select View
  4. Click the Green Checkmark, and the surface bodies are imported
