Problem
The weldment profiles library included in the SOLIDWORKS installation is limited to a few cross sections in the ANSI Inch and ISO standards. This article goes over how to download additional weldment profiles from inside SOLIDWORKS.
Solution
Open SOLIDWORKS
-
Navigate to the Design Library tab of the Task Pane that is usually on the right side of SOLIDWORKS. Go to View > Task Pane to enable the Task Pane if it is currently disabled.
-
Expand the "SOLIDWORKS Content" section and go to the Weldment folder
-
In the Weldments folder are the Weldment Profiles that can be downloaded. Hold down the CTRL key and left-click on a profile standard to download it
- Select the location to save the downloaded ZIP folder
- Right-click on the ZIP folder to select the option to extract it, and extract it to the Weldment Profiles folder that is specified in Tools > Options > System Options > File Locations > Weldment Profiles
For SOLIDWORKS 2025 and newer, the default location is:
C:\ProgramData\SOLIDWORKS\SOLIDWORKSversion\weldment profiles
For SOLIDWORKS 2024 and older, the default location is:
C:\Program Files\SolidWorks Corp\SOLIDWORKS\lang\english\weldment profiles - The Structural Member Property Manager drop-down list is now populated with the added Weldment Profiles.
For additional support, existing customers can submit a ticket or new customers can contact Hawk Ridge Systems.
Comments
Are there any other libraries that can be downloaded? I'm looking for ASTM Standards For Steel Tubes and Pipes.
