Problem

This article goes over how to change the SOLIDWORKS PDM Admin Password. This is useful when needing to update the Admin Password or needing to reset it to regain Admin control over a Vault. This article goes over changing the Password if the existing Password is known or not.

Solution 1: Change Password through Archive Configuration

The steps below go over how to change the Vault-specific Admin Password when the current Password is known.

1. Open the SOLIDWORKS PDM Archive Server Configuration Tool from  Start > Programs > SOLIDWORKS PDM > Archive Server Configuration or by typing "Archive" in Windows Search

   

2. Click on "This Computer" to expand it, then right-click the file vault name and select "Properties"

   

3. Click the Login tab

   

4. Uncheck "Use default Admin user" if it is checked and click "Password..."

   

5. Enter the current password, then fill in the other boxes and click "OK" to change the password

   

Solution 2: Password Reset with Registry Editor

The steps below go over how to reset the Admin Password when the current password is not known.

When going into the Registry Editor, do not modify or delete anything except what is listed below. If you do not feel comfortable performing the steps listed below, please contact Technical Support.

1. Log in to the machine hosting the Archive Server with a user profile that has local administrator permissions
2. Close all applications, including SOLIDWORKS and SOLIDWORKS PDM
3. Open Windows Search, search for REGEDIT, and then hit Enter to open the Registry Editor

4. Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\ArchiveServer

5. Right-click on this folder and select "Export"

   

6. Name the file archive.reg and save it anywhere that is desired. We have now made a backup of our current archive registry, which can be double-clicked to restore later if needed

7. Delete the Admin user under the following registry key for the Default Admin Password: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\ArchiveServer\ConisioUsers

   

8. For a vault-specific Admin password, delete the Admin user under the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SolidWorks\Applications\PDMWorks Enterprise\ArchiveServer\Vaults\[vault name]\ConisioUsers
9. Open the SOLIDWORKS PDM Archive Server Configuration Tool to change the password using the steps in the section above. Note: The password will be blank since it was reset.
10. The Admin Password registry key will be re-added after clicking "OK" to change the password
