Problem
This article goes over how to insert a Picture into a SOLIDWORKS Drawing. This can be useful for inserting an image of a company logo, special images for annotations, or other flair. Pictures can be added to a drawing and saved as a Sheet Format or Drawing Template document to become part of the company's standards.
Solution
This is done using the Sketch Picture feature, which supports the file types *.bmp, *.gif, *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.tif, *.tiff, *.wmf, *.png, *.psd. Follow the steps below to insert a picture into a Drawing:
- Open a Drawing file or start a new Drawing from a template
-
Navigate to Insert > Picture
- In the Open dialog box, browse to the image to use, select it, and click "Open"
-
The Sketch Picture tool is automatically launched. In the PropertyManager on the left-hand side, we can adjust the origin, rotation, the width, and height of the picture by typing in the values, or using the edges and corners of the picture outline to drag, move, and adjust the picture in the drawing sheet. The Scale tool can also be used to scale the picture
-
If the inserted file has transparency, use the transparency options to make the image transparent
- Once we are satisfied with the position and size of the picture, click the Green Checkmark to create the sketch picture
- To modify the position and the size of the picture, double-click on it to launch the Sketch Picture command again
- Save the sheet format/drawing template for future use using File > Save as or File > Save Sheet Format
