Problem

This article goes over the permissions required to use the SOLIDWORKS Toolbox in a multi-user environment.

Solution

For a multi-user Toolbox setup, configure permissions as follows:

• SOLIDWORKS Data folder: Grant all users Full Control in Windows folder security settings.
• Browser folder: Set it to Read-only. This is the folder located directly inside the Toolbox Data folder.

The Toolbox may temporarily switch the Browser folder between Read-only and Writable when users add parts or edit definitions, so verify these permissions remain correctly configured.

The steps below go over how to set Full Control for the SOLIDWORKS Data folder:

1. Navigate to the top-level Toolbox Folder. By default, this is named SOLIDWORKS Data and is located on the (C:) Drive
2. Right-click on the folder and select "Properties"

3. Go to the Security Tab

   

4. Select the Group or User from the list
5. Click "Edit"
6. Select "Full Control"
7. Click "OK"

The steps below go over how to set the Toolbox Browser folder to Read-only:

1. Navigate to the top-level Toolbox Folder. By default, this is named SOLIDWORKS Data and is located on the (C:) Drive.
2. Go down one level into the folder 
3. Find the Browser folder
4. Right-click and select "Properties"
5. Under the General Tab and in the Attributes section, select "Read-only"

6. Click "OK"
