Problem
This article goes over how to install the Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS, also known as Design with SOLIDWORKS. This is an Add-in for SOLIDWORKS Desktop that connects to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform for online data management.
Before Installation
There are a few prerequisites for the Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS:
- Have SOLIDWORKS Desktop installed. For more information on installing it, review this article: Getting Started with SOLIDWORKS – Hawk Ridge Systems
- Be granted the Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS, 3DSwymer, and Collaborative Industry Innovator roles by the Platform Administrator. More information on granting roles can be found here: 3DEXPERIENCE First Steps – Hawk Ridge Systems
- Run the 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud Eligibility tool to check the machine: 3DEXPERIENCE platform on Cloud Support | Dassault Systèmes
Installation
- Close SOLIDWORKS
- Navigate to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform: https://usw2-ifwe.3dexperience.3ds.com/

Log in with the 3DEXPERIENCE ID

Click the Compass at the top left

Click on the "Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS" role under "My Roles"
- In the list of Apps that comes up, click on "Design with SOLIDWORKS" and select "Install now"

There may be a website permissions prompt about "Access other apps and services on this device" or similar; click the option to allow it. This may look slightly different in different Internet Browsers. This is crucial to allow the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher to be downloaded and run.

Download the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher when prompted and run the downloaded 3DEXPERIENCELauncher.msi file to install it, or skip to step 10 if it's already installed

Click "Next" in the Launcher setup

Select a location to install the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher and click "Install"
- Once installed, go back to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and click on "Design with SOLIDWORKS" to install. This time, in the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher prompt window, click "Continue"

Click "Always" for the 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher trusted URL pop-up

Back on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform page, select "Install All Roles Containing Design with SOLIDWORKS"

In the 3DEXPERIENCE R20XXx HotFix X.X Installation window that comes up, click "Next"

Run the Cloud Eligibility tool if desired, and click "Next" to continue
- Select the location to install by clicking "Browse", and click "Next" to continue

If the installer detects an existing 3DEXPERIENCE File Vault, select the option to reuse it or not, depending on what is desired. If there is no existing vault, the location to create one can be specified. Then click "Next".

Select additional languages to install if needed and click "Next" to continue

The summary page will note how much space is required and how much is available. Clear additional space if needed and click "Install" to start the installation
- The installation manager will now download and install the add-in. When it is done, click "Close" to close the installation manager

Launch SOLIDWORKS and go to Tools > Add-ins to check on the "3DEXPERIENCE" Add-in

If there is a Windows Permissions prompt about "ENOPLMCSAClient" that comes up as a window, click "Allow"

If there is a Windows Permissions prompt about "SOLIDWORKS CEF" that comes up as a window, click "Allow"

Log in to the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform from the 3DEXPERIENCE Task Pane on the right side of the SOLIDWORKS User Interface
- The Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS add-in is now installed and activated
