Problem

These instructions explain how to export PDM Databases using SQL Server Management Studio. Users can back up the databases associated with a vault, which store file metadata and Administration tool settings.

Hawk Ridge Systems Technical Support may request a database backup when an issue appears to be vault-specific and cannot be reproduced in a test vault. This guide applies to both SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard and Professional.

Note: We will need a backup of the ConisioMasterDb database in addition to any vault-specific database(s).

Solution

1. Log in to the machine hosting the vault
2. Open the Windows Search Bar and type "SQL" to bring up SQL Server Management Studio to open it
   
3. Connect to the SQL Server
4. Expand the Databases folder
5. Right-click the database to be backed up, and select Tasks > Back Up
6. In the Back Up Databases dialog box, under Source, select "Full" for Backup Type and select "Database" for
7. Under Destination, click "Add"
8. In the Select Backup Destination dialog box, enter a destination path and filename for the backed-up database and click "OK".
9. Click "OK" to start the backup.
10. When the backup completes, click "OK".
11. Repeat the backup procedure for any additional file vault databases.
12. Exit SQL Server Management Studio.
13. Send the files to Technical Support by submitting a ticket
