This article goes over the steps to remove Temporary Network License files that are used with a SolidNetWork License Manager Server (SNL) or Standalone License Files that are used on individual client machines. This is to ensure proper activation of regular licensing when you no longer want to use Temporary license files for testing, overcoming an outage, or the license file has expired.

Standalone License File Removal
Network License File Removal
- Open the SolidNetWork License Manager on the server machine.
- Make sure no licenses are checked out or borrowed from the License Usage tab.
- Stop the license server from the Server Administration tab.
- In the Server Administration tab, click "Options" within the "Advanced Options" section.
- In the window that comes up, select the “Use Activation” option and click "OK".

- Start the Server by clicking "Start" in the "License Server" section
Standalone License File Removal
If an expired Standalone License file is still present, you may see a "Standalone license file failure" when launching SolidWorks. Follow the steps below to remove the old license file if it has expired or you no longer wish to use a temporary license file.
- Close SolidWorks.
- Open Windows File Explorer and navigate to C:\ProgramData\SOLIDWORKS (ProgramData is typically a hidden folder and can be revealed using Windows folder options, show hidden files and folders.)
- Locate the license file called SolidWorksStandaloneLic.lic and delete it.
