Adding Or Editing Custom Properties Without Opening The File

Jim Noe

This guide is written to help user add or edit file properties in SOLIDWORKS Explorer to provide or edit information for a part without needing to open the file.

SOLIDWORKS Explorer was removed in 2020 so this method is valid in all versions prior to 2020.

File properties such as the name, group association, and project title can be altered or added.

Open SOLIDWORKS Explorer and navigate to the file that will be altered. Then, click on the file which should bring up several tabs, including the Properties tab. Once the Properties tab is selected, the model properties will be displayed.

To add new properties to the file, right-click on the “<Add new value>” option in the menu. Select "Change", and a pop up window will appear that will allow you to add new properties to the file.

The property will only apply to the part.

Then, the added custom properties be written to the file.
