SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2017 SP0: Error Obtaining Network License

This article addresses a possible problem and fix for customers using SOLIDWORKS 2017 SP0 Simulation network products that are not able to pull a license.

Products Affected: 

SOLIDWORKS Premium with SOLIDWORKS Simulation Professional 2017 Network
and SOLIDWORKS Premium with SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium 2017 Network
(affects only licenses that combine the SOLIDWORKS and Simulation products into the same license key)

Software Performance Report and Solution

  • SPR 988372: 'Could not obtain a license for SOLIDWORKS Simulation/Toolbox. License server does not support this feature. (-18,147,0)', when enabling add-ins.
  • This issue is resolved in SOLIDWORKS 2017 SP1 and later. Please upgrade your client system to 2017 SP1 or later.  If you are unable to upgrade to 2017 SP1 or later, please contact your SOLIDWORKS Value Added Reseller (VAR) for assistance.

  • When on the VPN, only this user, get a could not get information from this server" getting a SW license. At work it works fine and I modified the host file for the server IP to host name. Now I know we can modify the registry to reflect the IP for the server name but I forget where this entry is make. Can you send me this information?
